POST OPERATIVE ADVICE FOLLOWING DENTAL EXTRACTIONS
AVOID
- Rinsing for at least 6 hours as this can disturb healing.
- Smoking and excessive exercise for 24 hours.
- Very hot food and drinks
- Aspirin
BLEEDING
- If bleeding occurs apply pressure to the area by biting on a damp swab or
clean handkerchief for 10 - 15 minutes.
- Do not remove swab at this time as this will dislodge the clot, repeat if
necessary.
- Contact the surgery if bleeding is continuous for more than one hour.
PAIN RELIEF
- Paracetamol and Nurofen as recommended by the manufacturer (Do not exceed).
- Avoid if allergic.
ANTIBIOTICS
- Following a surgicalprocedure they reduce the risk of infection.
- Please complete the course, if prescribed.
- If you suffer an upset stomach or a skin rash develops, stop the course and
ring the surgery.
AFTER CARE
- Clean teeth as normal.
- After 24 hours start warm salt - water baths with a teaspoon of salt in a
tumbler of Warm water.
- Gently rinse the sore area morning, night and after every meal for 2 - 3 days.
SHOULD YOU HAVE EXCESSIVE BLEEDING, SWELLING OR PAIN, CONTACT US AT THE SURGERY
DURING SURGERY HOURS.
